A man hospitalized after a suspect stole a coffee truck and led police on a wild multi-county chase has recalled the horrific experience. Derek Strano, 37, found himself in a terrifying situation when the suspect, Liam Preston Yanez, 28, jumped into the pickup truck towing a coffee service trailer in Moorpark.
A Harrowing Ride and Traumatic Escape
As the suspect drove erratically, Strano, who was still inside the coffee truck, held on for dear life as the vehicle veered dangerously backward. Eventually, Strano couldn’t hold on any longer and was ejected from the truck, resulting in a violent crash in North Hollywood.
Recovery and Legal Ramifications
Following the ordeal, Strano was hospitalized with serious injuries, causing him severe pain and limited mobility. While the suspect, Yanez, was arrested on felony charges, Strano believes that the legal actions taken are insufficient to address the damage caused. Currently, Strano is focused on recovery, undergoing physical therapy, and considering psychotherapy to cope with the trauma of the incident.
