The fire, which had grown to 75 acres, was first reported at 12:50 p.m. in the 15700 block of West Burbank Avenue. Los Angeles Fire Department officials, led by Brian Humphrey, quickly mobilized ground and air units to prevent further spread of the blaze.
Efforts to Stop the Spread of the Fire
Upon receiving reports of the fire, firefighters sprang into action, working diligently to halt the fire’s progress. Despite the initial size of 5 acres, the fire spread slowly and did not pose a direct threat to any infrastructure or buildings in the area. As a precautionary measure, the Apollo 11 model airfield in the vicinity was peacefully evacuated to ensure the safety of individuals in the area.
Successful Containment and Ongoing Firefighting Efforts
By 2:35 p.m., Humphrey announced that 69 firefighters had successfully stopped the fire’s advancement northwest of the intersection of Burbank and Woodley avenues. Despite the challenging conditions, the firefighters’ efforts paid off as they managed to prevent the fire from spreading further. Ongoing firefighting operations are in place to ensure that the fire remains contained and extinguished.
Road Closures and Safety Measures
In light of the fire and ongoing firefighting efforts, all northbound and southbound lanes on Woodley Avenue between Burbank and Victory avenues have been closed to ensure the safety of both responders and the general public. Los Angeles Fire Department officials are working diligently to complete their operations and reopen the affected roadways as soon as possible, allowing for normal traffic flow to resume in the area.
As the situation continues to develop, the Los Angeles Fire Department remains vigilant and committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals affected by the brush fire in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area. The teamwork and dedication of the firefighters on the ground and in the air have proven instrumental in containing the fire and preventing any significant damage or injuries.
