Arrest of Juan Pablo Leal for Stolen Merchandise
A Southern California man, identified as Juan Pablo Leal, 40, of Adelanto, was arrested after thousands of dollars worth of stolen merchandise was discovered in his home. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Leal’s involvement in thefts at various Target stores.
Method of Theft and Investigation
Leal’s modus operandi involved placing fake barcodes on products to reduce their prices significantly. He would then purchase the items and exit the store without raising suspicion. On July 30, employees at a Target store in Apple Valley alerted authorities, leading to the discovery of Leal’s involvement in the thefts. Investigations revealed that just days prior, Leal had shoplifted from the same store.
Discovery of Stolen Merchandise and Arrest
On August 6, a search warrant was executed at Leal’s residence in Adelanto, resulting in the recovery of over $15,000 worth of stolen merchandise. The stolen items included a variety of products, such as toy cars and Hot Wheels playsets. Leal was subsequently arrested for possession of stolen property and taken to the High Desert Detention Center. While he posted bond and was released, he is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Authorities highlighted that stolen goods often find their way onto reseller sites like OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace, urging caution when purchasing products at discounted prices from such platforms.
The investigation into the theft is ongoing, and individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact Deputy Vallejo at the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station or the Sheriff’s Dispatch Center. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Los Angeles Area Crime Stoppers.
