California Woman Arrested for Capitol Riot with Arsenal of Weapons
A California woman, Kennedy Lindsay, has been arrested for her involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol, where she was found carrying an arsenal of weapons including a sword, a steel whip, and a knife.
Arrest and Charges
Lindsay was arrested in Los Angeles last month on charges of disorderly conduct and possession of a dangerous weapon at the Capitol. The Secret Service officers who searched her backpack found a cutlass, a steel tactical whip, a collapsible baton, pepper spray, a butterfly knife, a flashlight, and a taser.
More than 1,400 people have been charged with federal crimes related to the Capitol riot, with many rioters armed with an array of weapons, including guns, knives, and stun guns.
Capitol Siege Details
Reports indicate that Lindsay, along with another woman, flew from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. after purchasing tickets to attend the protests following a speech by then-President Donald Trump. Lindsay was seen wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat and a tactical vest, and entered the Capitol through a broken window wielding a sword.
According to Lindsay’s self-recorded video, she believed it was her duty as a patriot to participate in the siege, citing the Constitution as justification.
After her arrest, Lindsay admitted to retrieving the backpack containing the weapons from her hotel room after Trump’s speech. She referred to the weapons as “tools” and confirmed they were in her possession when she entered the Capitol.
Lindsay was released after her arrest on July 28 and has not yet issued a statement through her attorney.
